Some shop bought headlice treatments contain some very unpleasant pesticides that you probably wouldn't want to expose your children to if you knew about them, including lindane, malathion and pyrethroids. However, it's easy to make your own effective and organic treatment using a blend of Florame's organic vegetable oils such as sweet almond, apricot kernels and olive or and organic essential oils including tea tree, eucalyptus and lavender.
Blend 2 drops each of Florame's tea tree organic essential oil, globulus eucalyptus organic essential oil and organic lavender essential oil together and dilute to 10% in an organic vegetable oil. Apply to the hair for 10 mins then comb and shampoo as normal - a carnage of lice will be left floating in the bath.
The organic vegetable oil suffocates the lice whilst the organic essential oils are known for their anti-lice/insect and anti-bacterial properties.
Follow this treatment by blow drying the hair as lice dislike high heat.
Use your homemade organic lice treatment once or twice a week until all lice are gone.
Alternatively you could dilute the essential oils to 10% in your child's shampoo.
To dilute to 10%, for 6 drops of essential oil you'd need 60 drops of vegetable oil or shampoo and so on.
In order to avoid any headlice infestations, it's a good idea to apply this home made treatment once a month.
